Technology Overview

If you visit no other page on our site, this is the page we would want you to review.  We believe that our use of technology for Information Management is what really separates CNC Industries from most shops in the country.

Throughout our site you will see us highlight our CNC Machining and Inspection equipment and discuss the reasons why we chose the equipment that we have.   However, we believe that as a buyer of custom machined parts you don't care so much about which machine was used to make your parts.  The things you care about are:

  • Are the parts on-time
  • Are the parts correct
  • Did you get them for the best possible price
  • How well does the supplier respond to your needs.

Today CNC machines are a commodity that any shop can easily acquire.   Hiring skilled people to run them is relatively easy too.   The real challenge for small shops in today's global economy is to be competitive enough to earn business, but remain profitable enough to stay in business.   It's no secret that global sourcing has made it very difficult for small machine shops in this country.

Because of this challenging environment, we saw the need early on for a sophisticated ERP II system to help us manage the staggering amount of information that we are dealing with on a daily basis.  We consider Job Manager II to be our crown jewel of technological achievement.   It is a software and hardware solution that is the result of 12 years of programming effort by several people with CS degrees, as well as extensive planning as to how to deploy it throughout the shop.

From the start, our goals for Job Manager were to:

  • Be cost effective enough to deploy to every workstation in the shop
  • Manage jobs from top to bottom - handling virtually every aspect of every job
  • Ensure that the right things happened at the right time
  • Electronically manage all documents - HR, inspection, Quality Management System docs, Mil Specs, customer docs, inspection, IT docs, - literally every document used in the business
  • Manage all aspects of job costing and reporting - including time clock and productivity functions
  • Make purchasing recommendations that will achieve the best possible prices from suppliers
  • Incorporate "Best Practices" throughout.  For example we may want to use the "5 Why's" model for Root Cause Analysis.  If so, the 5-Why's principles will be designed into the system
  • Help determine and eliminate waste throughout the company
  • Continue to evolve as our company evolves
  • Be infinitely tailored to our specific needs
  • Allow us to interface directly with customer and supplier systems
  • Manage all CNC file transfer functions and allow machine operators to upload and download from their individual workstation
  • Manage tooling, CNC programs, offsets, tool-life monitoring,, etc.
  • Manage all aspects of scheduling, including Kanban, JIT, Pull Systems, inventory control, determine best batch sizes, trigger material purchases, customer notification, etc.
  • Provide unprecedented real-time information with which to make minute-by-minute decisions

Essentially the goal of Job Manager II is to manage every last detail of the business - using Best Practices - to such an extent that our people can be as productive as possible.  That translates into Lean Manufacturing at its Best!

We have a group of really great people at CNC Industries and we're very proud of them.   Job Manager II has allowed our people to be extraordinarily effective in their jobs.    Not only have our people embraced the technology, they have enthusiastically supported the development and deployment of it.

Using Job Manager II, we achieved nearly 50% year over year growth between 2004 & 2008.   Even with that extraordinary growth, we have done so with a perfect Quality and On-Time delivery record.

If you are considering doing business with CNC Industries we would love to show all of this to you in person.   Please give us a call and we'll be happy to accomodate your schedule.
